mums rehearsal

Thursday: Up around 9, surprised that MB wasn't already up. Then I remembered it was her day to work at home. I got in the shower before her. Downstairs, made coffee (fru-fru for her and espresso for me) and poured some cereal. Some bits of guitar. We ate breakfast together. Down basement for morning practices, no Christine. Sitting was extra long for some reason. Emerged, loaded the car with my electric rig, a bit of email and then off to work.

Had a long conversation with B today about my bandwidth project. Possibly a serious rethinking in the works, but it seems we have a way forward. Emailing and some wild remote low level debugging. Left a project loading and got a couple of slices of pizza. Lovely weather here. Rita is about to hit TX. Worked through one little enhancement, and then headed off for my practice with Shawn.

Terrible traffic compounded the fast that I didn't leave on time, so I arrived almost a half hour late. A good session, but the challenge of the pieces we are working on is becoming more evident as time goes on, rather than less. I'm having quite a hard time playing my own compositions. I guess that's a good thing. Worked for quite a while on Chrysanthemum. We went for a little walk, I got a espresso-milk drink at Starbucks, then did more work. Shawn has the map, but has to fill in some details. The middle inverted section is still beyond me.

Back home, MB was still out at a BD performance in Lowell. Some more music, working on a bass-line. MB returned not much later. We chatted and had snacks in the kitchen. Our yard-helper M just installed a compost bin for us. Neat.

Our illustrious leader said tonight "To withdraw from Iraq now would be to repeat the mistakes of the past, that led to the attacks on September 11th." My first thought was how wonderful it would be to actually talk about what led to those attacks, and how strange it is that 4 years on, this was the first time I had heard him mention that there might be things that we did that were contributing factors. My second thought was to wonder what mistakes he was talking about. It could well be that this whole Iraq war business is a complicated playing out of 'the son proving the father wrong.' And with that, I give you the smirking chimp.
