Saturday: Woke later than intended, around 9. MB gave me a nudge. Don't know what happened to the alarm. Shower. Down basement for rapid morning practices. A few last minute things, and on the road by about 11. Stopped for bagels and coffee. Fuel. I was feeling a little irritable. The coffee helped. Uneventful drive to CT.
Riffing of "Shit on a shingle" on the drive:
Poop on Pumpernickel
Crap on a Cracker
Turds on Toast
Dump on a Donut
Scat on Flat-bread
Lunch with my mom, featuring one of her famous egg pies. The people installing new carpet had just left. Mom took a nap, and I gave MB a ride to the nail place. Then I took a nap as well. Awoke probably 20 minutes later feeling significantly refreshed. MB called around 4:15 for a ride back. We got some more coffee then returned to mom's. Helped her carry some items in from the back of her car. Around 5:15 we headed off.
SUNY Purchase. Ate at an Italian restaurant that is part of a hotel near the college. An enjoyable meal with two lovely ladies. Time passed quickly, and soon it was 7 PM. Over to the campus. The preliminary event was an interview with Jonathan Wolken. MB asked a question about his presenting more dance seminars.
Then, the main event: Pilobolus. A very enjoyable performance: One involving a fanciful seaside encounter with many legged creatures. "Fem Noir" with a big hat. People in bright jogging clothes bumping into each other. A hilarious slapstick number involving an intoxicated man, long rolling pins things that he tried to walk on, and a bench. And a final piece with music by Primus and Radiohead that seemed to be some statement about "youth culture"... Very athletic.
Drove back to mom's in CT. Couldn't quite articulate to mom the difference between a 'fact' and a 'theory.' Saw a downed tree blocking traffic in the other direction on the Merit.
Back at her place, packed the car. A Halloween party was in full swing in her condo complex. Uneventful drive back to Somerville. MB slept most of the way. Listened to the Intergalactic Boogies Express CD, with a sense of awe and ate moments an open heart. Arrived back about 1:30 PM. My computer's clock just set itself back an hour. Yay for more sleep!
