Leaving

Saturday: MB and I woke at 7 AM. A quick shower, then down basement to complete the bulk of my daily practices, in anticipation of being in transit. Up right around 9:30, and made some breakfast: eggs. MB didn't want onions, so mine had mushrooms, onions and spinach, and her's had just mushrooms. Coffee, toast. Last minute packing. The cab arrived right on time at 10:45.

A friendly Haitian cab driver, with advice about having children, related to his son, still back on the island. They said our guitars wouldn't be let through security as carry-on, so we checked them. To our gate and waiting. The plane was a little late leaving, but we had lots of time on the other end, so no problem.

Arrived in Miami around 4:30. This airport must be listed as one of the far outer circles of hell... Low ceilings, poor ventilation, no windows, narrow halls, dirty carpet, not enough seating, and very few food options. We went out through security hoping to find somewhere better to eat. Not much luck. I opted for a fast food veggie burger, and MB got a bagel sandwich. We wandered around stopping various places, finding a Starbucks, and also venturing outside a bit. Went back to our gate, but it was deserted. Found it had been changed from C9 to E9. Eventually boarded our plane and departed, also late, around 11:30.

A long overnight flight. My request for vegetarian food had gotten lost, but eventually they were able to give me a very nice salad (from first class, judging by the cloth napkin and china plate) and some odd spinach and potatoes. It was quite good, but it gave me lots of gas, which I had to usher through my system the rest of the night. Watched part of Elizabethtown sans sound. Cramped, and hard to sleep, but did drowse.
