Roses

Wednesday: Woke as MB headed out, she saying Victor could get
together. Slept a bit more. Some good morning practice. Up, shower,
email. Gave Victor a call and arranged to arrive at his place around
noon. Down basement briefly. Loaded the car, and off.

At Victor's, worked for about an hour on Loadstone, mostly on one
chord position... albeit a tricky one. Also played Chrysanthemum and
Moving Force. Quite a lovely day out.

In to work, continued fixing bugs on the Intel build. More
correspondence with the Apple engineer. I've said it before, but its
a strange truth that the time it takes to fix a bug can have nothing
to do with how important the issue is. Yesterday, there was a
crippling bug in file reading that I fixed in about half an hour.
Today, I spent about 3 or 4 hours working on one small graphics
anomaly. Lunch at desk. Took a walk out and sold a bunch of CDs at
Newbury Comics. Later in the evening, deposit pay and picked up
pizza. Headed home around 9:30.

MB was out when I returned, so down basement and practices. Came back
up a little before she returned, around 12:30 AM. The rose bush in
the front is blooming.

MacBook

Tuesday: Woke around 8 as MB headed off to work. Email, cats, shower,
breakfast (leftover coffee). Some guitar. Decided to buy a new
MacBook. I got a $100 discount from Amazon, and upgraded the memory
and hard-drive myself, thus saving almost $500. The new laptops are
great, but Apple charges too much for the upgrades. The sale of the
PCM 91, and my current PowerBook will just about cover the cost of
the new computer. Down basement and some practices. Put away things
that had been used to wind mantras. Took apart the old turntable and
found that indeed, fuses had blown, and if they were replaced, that
it would live again.

In to work. A talk with B about the state of our installer, and
automated builds. Fixed a bug in the Intel build. (Some absolutely
Ha-Larious code that used to be used to pack 4 bytes into 5 bytes
(without the high bits set). Good grief I can't believe this is still
in there.) Some back and forth with an engineer at Apple. Gave him
some info on a bug of theirs. Fixed a bug of ours that he had alerted
me to. Lunch at my desk thanks to MB, and some yummy Pear Crumble
later in the day con cafe. Headed to yoga at 6:45.

Class was a bit more strenuous tonight. Several new people. Wendy was
being a little dyslexic, but was so charming, as always, that it
didn't matter. My car is doing an annoying thing where it warns me
about the top not being secured even though it is. Back home around
9:25, and my call with workshop friends.

Hung out with MB for a spell, eating an assortment of leftovers
(salad, soup, soy sausage, bread and cheese). Had fun poking more
holes in the Da Vinci Code. I cleaned up while she took a shower.
Now, down basement for the rest of my stuff.

venus on the rise

Monday (Memorial Day): MB headed out, and I woke briefly, from dreams
about funny money and zombies (but not so scary). Had a nice
sleep-in. Up, cats, looked at where to do a voice recording project
with MB (iMac has no line input). Brief sitting in the dance room.

MB returned from a BD rehearsal with Bn at Third Life. We had a
breakfast of scones and OJ she brought back from the Sherman, along
with fried eggs and soy sausage. She took a shower while I cleaned
up. I got her set up to do her voice recording in the dining room,
and then went to take a shower myself. Burned a CD of the result.
Kind of a humid and overcast day.

Down basement and practices. Put the PCM 91 up for sale on ebay. Came
up for air, and had some lunch. The names of the 49 service people
with ties to Massachusetts were being read on the radio. A little
guitar. MB headed out to teach her BD class. Back down basement for
the rest of my work.

At 6:30 I headed to KKC for a talk by Alan Wallace.
Brilliant. A mind perfectly situated between East and West. Ducked
out as the Q&A began. I'll have to listen to the recordings later.
Back home for a date with my wife. Out and saw "The Da Vinci Code."
Quite enjoyable. Hooray for the divine feminine.

Rudy's/Trimming hedge/A circle of two

Sunday: Woke at 8:45 without an alarm. Exactly the time I wanted to
wake. Up shower and down basement briefly. Headed for KKC without
waking MB.

Nice to be back at the center for Sunday teaching. I answered a
question about the division of space, which seemed to surprise
people. Connected with Tni and gave her the wound mantras.

After teaching, gave someone a ride to the T, then Wnd and I had
lunch at Rudy's. We were actually going to have lunch at the Tibetan
place in Davis, but the streets were closed. The other Tibetan
restaurant in Teele Sq was itself closed. We had a nice lunch, and
she told me about a connection she'd made on her recent retreat, that
I believed represents a step forward for her. The weather was
absolutely perfect today.

Back home and down basement. I heard MB return upstairs, so popped up
to say hello. Victor called to say it would be just me and him
tonight. She had a little time before heading to Franklin. She went
upstairs to practice guitar, and I went back down basement.

Later on, headed back to KKC. Returned home having picked up a photo
CD. MB was back from Franklin. The class had been canceled at the
last minute. I went out front and trimmed the box bush along the side
of the driveway with the electric trimmers that mom gave us from the
Cape. Took quite a bit off the driveway side. Swept up, and put away
the tools. Ate the leftover bit of burrito, and had a nice
conversation with MB about life goals and plans.

Headed out to Victor's, arriving just after 8 PM. Sat down to play
outside. No bugs, which is surprising, given all the rain we had. He
played a good stretch of the Paganini piece he's been working on.
Maybe I'll play bass on it. We played Chrysanthemum through a couple
of times. I suggested he come up with a second part to my piece
Loadstone. We worked on that for a while. The motion sensor light
kept going off. Don't know where its sensor is pointed. I tried
jumping up and down to kick it back on. Nothing. Threw a stick in the
air which almost hit Victor coming down. It's not good to almost hit
your guitar buddy with a stick. We went inside, and continued
working. Got through the beginning part of the piece and recorded it
using the built-in mic on his laptop. A pleasant drive home listening
to "My Word" on the BBC.

MB was still out at a BD gig when I got in. Down basement. Took a
break to see if she had returned. Nope. More basement stuff. Still no
MB. Ate some bread and cheese. Hanging with the cats. Email. Sleepy
now.

Yard-work/Winding

Saturday: Slept in a bit after a late night. MB woke me. Shower,
cats, then breakfast with her: eggs, grapefruit, toast, coffee. What
was a sunny day turned cloudy, and it began to rain. Guitar. MB
headed off for a lesson with Victor. Email and such, then down
basement for morning practices. I came back up around the time that
MB got back from her lesson.

Some more guitar. MB made some cookies: Chocolate chip, with traces
of oats and raisons. Two cookies in one! We set out on a walk,
talking some to the across-the-street neighbor who has just bought a
house a few doors down as an investment. Up the street we saw a kid
riding holding a bag of multi colored cereal. Up and around on
Highland, enjoying looking at houses in need of repair, or newly
renovated. Stopped at Stc's house, but she was gone for the weekend.
Met her house-mate.

Back home, MB went upstairs to do some stuff, and I went out and cut
the grass. Also did a good bit of pruning of the forsythia and lilac
along the western boarder of the yard.

When I was done, I cleaned up, and was sitting down to relax when the
phone rang. F calling asking if I wanted to go hang out with him and
M. He misunderstood my calling out to MB as an answer in the
affirmative, and I didn't want to back out, so, well alright. Drove
down to Davis and met them and enjoyed conversation while they ate
frozen yogurt. We decided to go see the new "X Men" movie at the
horrible theater near my house, so that's what we did. After the
movie, dropped them back at their place, and picked up some Chinese
food on the way home. Ate vegetarian hot and sour soup, and spinach
dumplings, hanging out with MB. We watched some of a disappointing
SNL rerun. Said goodnight to her, then down basement for more stuff.
Winding for Toni.

Rumours

Friday: Slept in a bit. The usual stuff. Breakfast. Gave Victor a
call, and we talked about the "Tuning the Air" project. He's going to
talk more with Curt. Down basement and stuff. Sorted through the
"cardboard box cubby" and retrieved a couple of important boxes. Some
guitar. Headed off to work, a bright and sunny day.

Worked on two smaller dev kits, porting example code to XCode and
updating documentation. The sun departed and rain broke out. Walked
out, borrowing an umbrella, and got some cash and a coffee. B said
something generous about my usefulness. MB called from the market
asking if I knew we needed anything. Headed home around 9 PM.

Helped MB put away groceries. We make a quick supper: salad, heated
canned soup, microwaved potato, baguette. Talked about bad comedy
movies, which naturally led to Chevy Chase, and his quintessential
role as "Fletch." Also talked about Fleetwood Mac. It's strange but
"You Make Lovin' Fun" doesn't sound like the product of drug binges,
partner swapping, and emotional devastation... but it is.

From Barry Walsh of Slant: "Of course, legend has it that the entire
band was falling to pieces during the making of the record-not hard
to understand when you consider that Fleetwood Mac was comprised of
two couples that were breaking up with each other (Stevie and
Lindsey, and John and Christine), while the sole
romantically-unencumbered member, drummer Mick Fleetwood, was a
raving coke fiend. Still, amidst the shrapnel flying every which way
from the many broken hearts, great music was shaped out of the
personal wreckage that was Fleetwood Mac '77. Romantic relationships,
brain cells, and perhaps a nose lining or two were sacrificed at the
altar of classic, undying pop. And once the smoke had cleared,
Rumours would go on to sell a quadrazillion copies."

Some foot rubbings. More Guitar. Soon down basement.

Nvu

Thursday: MB was working at home today. Had a fairly intentional
first part of the morning. Down basement. Used the weed whacker on
the lawn to top the highest stuff. I'll mow over the weekend, if it
doesn't rain.

In to work more or less just in time to go to lunch with the gang.
Penang. Talked a little about the MacBook and so on. The food came
strangely quickly. I've been doing my documentation in Adobe GoLive,
but the licence wouldn't work on the Intel iMac. At Mthw's
suggestion, searched for a shareware replacement, and found a
workable package. Nvu. Nothing has been done on it in awhile, but it
did the trick after a few initial problems. Spent most of the day
writing documentation. More project tweaks.

Got home around 10. Some guitar. Expecting a call from MB, but none
came. Left a message on her cell, then down basement for practices.
She returned around 12:15 from a BD gig. Some hanging out with her,
then back downstairs. A late night.

Wednesday, May 24, 2006

bird caught in the fence

Wednesday: Woke around 8, MB heading out. She had something on her
mind, but she wouldn't say what. Cat wrangling. Shower, then
breakfast. Saw a bird outside that had managed to get its leg caught
in the picket fence. Went out and extracted it. The leg looked OK.
Kissed its head and sent it on its way. It flew up to a tree branch
and made angry sounds at me. Down basement and some morning stuff.
Put away laundry.

Headed off to work. A little rain just as I got to the garage. B was
not in the office today. Ported another add-on to XCode. Project
tweaks. Got a burrito. Ate at my desk. R looked disapproving, or
maybe my imagination. Left around 7:30.

Back home, and down basement. A Middle-Eastern drum class was in
progress upstairs. Daily practice. KKC website stuff. Spent some time
with MB, talking and eating cheese and crackers. Guitar. More KKC
stuff. Soon bed.

Tuesday, May 23, 2006

Death meditation

Tuesday: Woke around 8:30 as MB headed out. She was all dressed up in
her CPO attire in preparation for a day of videotaping instructional
segments. I was having disturbing dreams about the weather turning
against us. Web, cats, shower. Marched myself down basement for
morning practices. After, a bowl of cereal. Laundry. Guitar. Emptied
the dish washer.

Headed across town. Stopped for gas: $48. Had to take a detour around
a closed off street. At work, more project fiddling. Added a script
to build a development kit. Built the add-ons and delivered them. A
long conversation about a company that wants the industry to modify
its standards, and for everyone to adopt the changes, just to support
a hardware hack. Left around 6:30.

Yoga: Many new people tonight. The class was perhaps a little more
easy-going than usual. Death meditation at the end. Cough cough
cough. Slipped out without saying goodbye.

Back home, and my support call. Folks perhaps sounded a little tired
this week, and not so much new to report... but enjoyable. After,
back upstairs, and hello to MB. She's gotten quite good at playing
Asturias. Some soup and toast. Ate the peach cobbler MB had packed in
my lunch. Talking about real estate and politics. A bit more guitar.
Still have some stuff to do down basement.

Monday, May 22, 2006

Peach crumble

Monday: Woke around 8. MB had left to do some dance rehearsal at
Third Life. She returned as I was stumbling about. Cats. Shower. Down
basement for morning stuff. Put together two packages of CDs to mail
to CD Baby. Headed out. Stopped at the PO and sent the packages.

At Kurukulla, saw Ngawang briefly, but not a soul otherwise. Filled
water bowls. Stopped and got an egg sandwich and coffee. Very
disturbing conversation about Iraq on NPR. It was a lovely sunny day
out.

In to work, and fiddled with project files for most of the day,
getting the rest of my add-ons building, and creating umbrella
projects to build them all with one command. B merged the Intel work
onto the trunk. Ate a cheese and crackers lunch at my desk. A new
battery for my PowerBook, and a new 'J' key arrived. With these
installed my "pre-selling refurb" work is complete. Got and built the
trunk. Headed home around 9:20.

Back home, spent some time with MB. Feeling a bit under the weather.
Ate soup, toast, herbal tea. MB had made some delicious peach
crumble, which I had with ice cream. Now, guitar, then down basement.

Mom at the Fells.

Sunday: Slept in a bit. Woke around 10. Heard mom up and moving
about. Sitting in bed. Shower, then downstairs and made us breakfast.
MB had already made some nice fruit salad. MB headed to OCBC around
noon. Mom and I looked at photos from Argentina, and then photos from
the Level 3, and other photos. Around 1 we drove out to The Fells,
and had a nice walk in the woods, talking about how some moments
leave lasting impressions, her life transitions, and being in the
moment. We stopped by Kurukulla on the way home, and I showed her
around. Wendy came out of the teaching room (where they were having a
meeting) and said she must come in and look around. Back home
briefly, then to South Station, and dropped her off right around 3 PM.

Back home, and spent some time with MB before she headed out to a
gig. Email and messing about, then down basement. I saw a rainbow. MB
reported she'd seen two as well. The evening was spent alternating
between basement time, and hanging with MB. No circle tonight.

Bridge's Fair, Mom, Dulcimers at Third Life

Saturday: Woke at 8. Coughing earlier. Up, cats, shower. MB headed
out to a BD teaching gig. Sitting in the dance room. Victor called
and asked me to bring a stool. Loaded the car. Headed out around
9:20. Stopped for an egg sandwich. They couldn't seem to get my order
right. On the highway, saw a rear-end fender-bender happen right in
front of me. Ate while driving. Arrived at the fairgrounds at 10 AM.
Victor David and Dev were already there. We set up stools. Victor got
our sound happening. A young lad looked on and eventually asked how
much our guitars cost. We circled up at 10:55, and began our set just
after 11. Circulation, Growing Circle, Calliope, Third Relation,
Moving Force, Askesis, Chrysanthemum, Bicycling to Afghanistan,
Bartok. Mostly things went pretty well. It was a sunny day, and
everyone seemed to be having a pretty good time. Had a nice long talk
with Jme about electronic music and live performance. Headed out, and
home by 12:45. Hung out with MB a bit, who reported her class went
well. Down basement and daily practices. When complete, upstairs.
Snacks. My mom's train was delayed by a half hour. Drove off to pick
her up at 4 PM. South Station, and met her just after she
disembarked. Back home, and in the kitchen drinking tea and enjoying
conversation. At 5:45, headed to dinner at Vinny's Italian
restaurant. Delicious. We filled mom in on our experience in
Argentina. MB ordered a glass of wine from Mendoza, which was being
offered as a special. To Union Square. Got seats for the performance
at Third Life, then took a walk around, pointing things out to mom.
The performance was quite good: hammer dulcimer plus (pick one)
keyboard (synth), Oud, a second hammer dulcimer, accordion. Hand
percussion also. Intertwining melodies, some "home brew" some from
around the world. Mostly odd meters. During the intermission, MB let
the sleeve of her sweater fall into the toilet. That wine from
Mendoza will do it to you. Back home around 10:30. Ice-cream and tea,
watching the Stephen Colbert roast of Bush (mom hadn't seen it). More
enjoyable time hanging out, then fading, MB first (asleep on the
couch) then mom.

Mike's force of habit

Friday: Woke as MB headed out, then again a little later, then again
when M showed up to clean the house. Cough cough cough. Shower. Took
care of cats. Down basement briefly, then headed out. Stopped at the
donut shop and got an egg sandwich and some coffee. Sat in the car
with the top down while I ate, drops of rain falling from the trees.

In to work and more project-wrasslin. Got most of the rest of the
add-ons building, and tested them. There was a long meeting in the
office about a new product that is being developed. Went out and got
some pizza which I ate at my desk. Things are almost buttoned up on
the Intel port. The luthier that is building my new guitar called and
said that indeed he had forgotten a couple of features that I had
asked for. No big problem though, he said. Stayed until around 8:45.

Back home, MB was off at a BD gig. Down basement and practices, then
some food (Spanikopita and egg-drop-noodle soup). Practiced guitar,
working through the material for tomorrow's gig. Email. MB came home
around 2 AM.

A new parishioner

Thursday: Up late last night, so slept until 10 or so. Cats, and a
sitting in the dance room. Breakfast of cereal and coffee. Pulled
equipment together and headed out. Another sunny day!

In at work, continued with the project hijinx. Got my "wrapper"
add-on working. Fixed one bug where the byte order was not being
properly reversed. Took a walk out and got a burrito. Got several
more add-ons building. B continues with the project of piling
everything together. Left around 8:20, heading for Arlington.

Rehearsal with Shawn. Ran through everything once or twice by around
10 PM. Took a break to go out and get coffee and ran into MB.
Starbucks, and goodies and hot drinks. MB worked with us for about an
hour, she dancing, and us playing. Broke a string, and put in another
one. Gave Shawn a ride home, then home for me as well. MB's upstairs
playing guitar. I will soon head down basement.

not a superhero

Wednesday: MB woke me on her way out. Scratchy throat. More sleep
until almost 11. Needed it. Took care of cats. Wrote an email
declining super-heroism. Brief sitting in the dance room. Cereal
yogurt and coffee. Down basement, and cleaned up some ceiling tiles
that had gotten wet. We had a little water come through, and the
tiles were standing on end against a wall.

Drove in to work. Another day fiddling with projects. Bug with
exported symbols in XCode. Eventually got an add-on loading. Took a
walk out to do some banking and pick up some pizza. Talked to my mom,
who sounds like she's doing pretty well. B gave me a run-down of his
work in re-combining all the projects into one uber-project. Headed
home around 10 PM.

Stopped at the Stop and Shop and shopped. Pilfered a few extra paper
bags on the way out. Back home, hung out with MB, talking about
cannibalism, and other macabre topics. She went to bed. Guitar for
about an hour.

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

hand-held

Woke around 7:30, MB heading out. Not much sleep, but feeling
energized. Cats. Then down basement for some morning practices. A bit
of breakfast. Guitar. Headed off to work, stopping at an electronics
store, looking at hand-held digital voice recorders. Didn't find one
I could trust.

In at work, more fussing with project files. XCode is pretty flaky.
Took a walk out and looked at some more recorders, with even less
luck. Pizza. Plus the lunch MB packed. Stayed until around 8. Add-on
building, but not loading.

Back home, some practices, then a call with my mates. Ssn isn't
buying the church. Upstairs around 10:35. MB and I unloaded the
dishwasher. I ate my leftover fried rice, and we both drank tea. More
guitar.

Pineapples and Gutters

Monday: Up around 7, as MB headed out. Cats and shower and so on.
Then some breakfast. Guitar. Down basement for morning things.
Cleaned out the gutters. It's overcast, but we had a break in the
rain. Headed to KKC around 11:30.

Said hello to Ngawang, who gave me a piece of pineapple, and Jf.
Filled water bowls. The prayer wheel that I filled is finally
installed.

In to work. Fiddled with projects for most of the day. No, make that
all of the day. But, made good progress. Walked out and bought a
couple of CDs for MB. Headed home around 10 PM.

Back at the ranch, made some quicky friend rice, which I ate with a
piece of Spanikopita for dinner. Hanging with MB, and a pleasant
evening. Internet radio streaming through the new speakers. Heard
some sad news about a friend's father-in-law. Now, down basement.

Sunday, May 14, 2006

Quiet

Sunday: MB headed out early. I woke around 9. Decided not to go to
KKC, but rather to sleep in. Did so until noon. Very good. A quiet
"morning" not doing much of anything except eating breakfast and
hanging with the cats. MB showed up around 3. We spent a little time.
She left again at 4. Played some guitar. Down basement for a
comprehensive practice. Made some coffee. Victor arrived just after
8. We worked on Chrysanthemum. MB showed up a bit later. Mostly talk
about "Tuning the Air" and where the circle is going, or might go.
Third Relation. Askesis. And, another run through Chrysanthemum.
Victor talked a little about a Nova special involving tracing the
wanderings of early humans via the genetic record. Helped MB pack
lunches for tomorrow. Ate a little food. The rain continues.

Friday, May 12, 2006

The rain continues

Saturday: MB was up and out early to practice dance at Third Life. Up and cats. Was showering about the time MB got back. She brought me a scone, which I had some some coffee and yogurt. My mom called, and we chatted for a while. My old grade-school had a fund-raiser, and two people paid $19,000 for reserved parking spots, and then two other people paid $14,000 for the privilege of their child being "director for a day."

Down basement and morning things. When I came up, talked to MB's parents and her brother for a bit. Packed my car, and headed off to work. Remembered I needed to do some dry-cleaning. Back home, then stopped at the cleaners.

At work, took a walk out. Browsed in some bookstores, and got coffee at Starbucks. Back in the office, worked on the add-on project structure.

On my way to Shawn's, stopped for some pizza. Picked him up at his house. He's found a new place to live, and is the midst of packing. A good rehearsal. We're adding "Hope" to our repertoire. Ended around 8:30. Dropped him back at his place.

Back home, some Spanikopita thanks to MB. Snacks. Gave her a "head vacation." The cats were perched on my leg looking at her in a very amusing fashion. Then, emails.

Streaming to Speakers

Friday: Spent a good amount of time in the morning putting away our gifts from the night before. Hooked up the speakers and the "Airport Express" and got music streaming from my laptop. Put the humidifier down basement. It's been raining for a week. I don't think I'll need the humidifier again until next winter. Guitar. Ate some eggs, coffee and toast for breakfast. Morning stuff in the basement.

Dropped off the DVD on my way to work. We've come up with a best guess at a solution for the "compare and swap" problem on Intel: use 64 bits. B was in today after being out yesterday. Took a stab at it, but I'm no assembly guru on Intel. Pizza. Stayed until 8:30ish.

Back home. MB was out at a BD gig for a birthday party. Completed first half of practices, then came up and said hello to MB. Installed an OS update on the iMac, while doing some guitar practice. Can now stream from the iMac to the new speakers. Back down basement for the completion of the day's work.

Wednesday, May 10, 2006

Anniversary

Thursday: 4th Anniversary. MB got up early and headed out to do belly dance practice at Third Life. I slept in a bit, then up shower, took care of cats, brief sitting in the dance room and put away laundry. Drove out and bought some wrapping paper and so on. Stopped for an egg sandwich and a coffee at the donut shop. Back home and wrapped presents, then put them in the living room. Off to work. Rain, and more rain.

A day spent puzzling the double delete issue. The best guess we have at the moment, is the ABA problem that arises given the way that "compare and swap" works on Intel. Some pizza. A coworker came into my office behaving flat and agitated. I was feeding into it, acting annoyed. Then I saw that his behavior was entirely his stuff, so I allowed myself to relax. His mood immediately brightened.

Back home around 7. Basement practices. Checked in with MB. She ordered food. More basement practices. At 8:45 we ate Indian food. They'd messed up the order a little. After dinner we drove out and returned the incorrect food, and they gave us a refund. Then to the video store and picked up "The Squid and the Whale." Back home, unpacked presents, then ate rice pudding while watching. Very good film. MB headed to bed. Me too, soon.

Tuesday, May 09, 2006

Unstructured

Wednesday: Up and another somewhat unfocused morning. I'm not sure why my days are like this lately. It's as if I still need unstructured time in compensation for all the stuff I've been through recently. Down basement and brief morning stuff. Out and did some shopping. Rain.

A shortish day at work. Tracking down a double-delete bug with add-ons. Talked to my mom. Went out and got some pizza. Stayed until about 8:30.

Back home, more laundry, put out the garbage and recycling. MB returned. We walked out and got subs at Leone's, then ate them at home. Remembering our wedding. Down basement for a time, then guitar, now down basement again.

Glenda

Tuesday: Slept until around 8:30. Another unfocused morning. Tried to write down some of my thoughts on the possible new guitar project. Down basement and morning practices. Phoned in a request to the vet's for stuff for Gus. Walked out and picked up some essentials at the grocery store. The cashier's name was Glenda. Made a quick breakfast. Emptied the dishwasher. Headed out.

Picked up the stuff at the vet's. Chilly, rainy day, and likely to stay this way for a while, I've been told. At work, some short meetings (that were still longer than they needed to be) about the state of the Intel port. Some email exchanged with a contact I have about the state of XCode. Not very encouraging. Checked a good round of fixes in. Headed out around 7.

Between my late departure from work, and the traffic caused by the rain, I didn't get to KKC until 7:40. But, a good yoga class anyway. Wendy seemed to be giving me really good pointers tonight. Back home by 9:10. Conference call with friends. Hanging out with MB. Conversation, coffee, toast and a little pie. Practiced guitar for a half hour.

Monday, May 08, 2006

Root

Monday: Lazy morning. Felt drained for most of the day. Around 11, went and, in celebration of Geshela's birthday, had lunch with folks from Kurukulla at the Friendly's in the mall. (You can get lunch before noon, which is important for monks and nuns who have taken vows not to eat past 12.) Enjoyable conversation. Gave Tsunma-la and Nyima-la a ride back to the center. Filled water bowls for the first time in a month. Ate some birthday cake with friends in the library. Picked up a package I had mailed myself at the PO. Back home and some fussing around, then in to work.

Brief day at the office. Decided to make some fixes to some redundant code in the name of expediency. Headed home around 7.

Practices in the basement, then a lovely evening with MB.

Sunday, May 07, 2006

OCBC gig

Sunday: Woke around 7:30. Morning stuff. Loaded the car. Stopped at the donut shop for a quick breakfast. To OCBC just after 9 AM. In the main space there was a circular arrangement of tables with snack foods on them, with another circle of chairs in the middle. I thought this was not good for our performance based on the flow of the service, so we rearranged it to have our chairs in a semi-circle outside the circle of tables. The gang all arrived. Dev is back! Sound checks and so on. A brief circle-up and then some circulation to begin. Quite good I thought. There's a composed feeling when the music is present. Great last chord. Eye of the Needle. Third Relation. Calliope. Chrysanthemum. Growing Circle. Moving Force. Everything went pretty well. There's a lot of work to do to really be a performance team. In one break where we ate cheese and crackers with the folks in attendance. I washed my hands before taking up the guitar again. Bridge and Jane were there. After, packing and farewells. Good spirits and many thanks.

Fish

Friday: Not much sleep last night. Up around 9:30. Took care of cats. Brief sitting. Made some coffee. Victor came over around 11. Chrysanthemum, Moving Force and Larks. After he left did some filing. Headed to work around 1 PM.

Short day in the office. Backed out a bunch of changes from yesterday, after realizing something about the code I was working on that wasn't clear to me before. Got a slice of pizza, an energy drink and some chips. Lunch at my desk. Got some basic functionality up and running on Intel. Left around 4:30.

Back home, MB wasn't there when I was expecting her. Took a nap sitting on the sofa until around 5:20 when she showed up. We headed north and attended a seminar together. Back home around 11:30. Some stuff to do in the basement still.

Back to Shawn

Thursday: Up around 8:30, but had a lazy morning again. Working on framing my schedule for an upcoming project. Down basement for brief practices. Headed to work around noon, taking my electric rig with me.
Lunch out with the guys at Penang. Long time since we were there.
More work on Intel buffer conversion routines.
Lovely weather out today.
Headed out to Shawn's at 7:15.
A little food with him on his porch, talking about our project, and my trip.
He played me a couple of compositions. Very good. Excellent production. The first piece was very moving... about the end of his relationship with Christine. But, you know, relationship never really ends. We are all related in some sense, and always will be.
Then, some drums in tow, to the space, and an abbreviated rehearsal. We needed it. Broke a string right at 10 PM.
Back home, and made some noodles, watching Stephen Colbert skewer the Republicans on a web video of the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. Right on, man.
Ate noodles. Soon down basement.

Carrot juice

Wednesday: Slept a little extra. Down basement for brief morning practices. Then headed out to Victor's, leaving around 10:30, and arriving at his place just after 11. We worked on Chrysanthemum, Moving Force and Larks. Also talked about what might be needed to get to the next station. He made me some yummy carrot juice.
In to work, and pizza for breakfast.
Intel port coming along, but XCode didn't rebuild all files it needed to. Did a clean rebuild, and walked out to get a burrito while it was going. Then, the text server kept crashing on me.
Worked late, leaving around 10.
Put out the garbage and recycling. It's been wet and raining off and on all day. Spent some time with MB.
Down basement and practices.

Back to yoga

Tuesday: Woke at 7:30, but decided (if you can call it that) that I needed another bit of sleep. Up around 8:30. Cats. The cable modem fell on its face last night, but was up again this morning. Brief morning practice in the basement. Coffee and eggs. Victor showed up, and we worked on Chrysanthemum, making good progress. Larks and Moving Force also. We talked about how opening the energetic body can improve musicianship as he was leaving.

In to work, and bug fixing related to the Intel port. Alx has discovered bugs in the OS related to the change in processors. I got some help (debug library) from someone at Apple. Read an interesting article about why Adobe is postponing porting their products to Intel. Lunch at my desk. Got some coffee in the late afternoon. Headed off at 6:45.

Got to yoga a little late, but slotted in without disturbing the class too much. Great to have a session with Wendy again. She had us do some shoulder stretches at the beginning that I really liked. Balance postures also. Headed home at 9 PM. A phone call. Then hanging with MB. Some soup, a salad of sorts, toast and tea. Down basement for evening practices. Sleepy. The cable modem is dead again. Now it's back.

Back to work

Monday: Up around 7:30. Lazy. MB headed out. Shower. Brief sitting. Headed to the dentist's office at 9 AM. Ran into Tsun-ma-la while walking to the office. Teeth cleaned, and got a night-guard to wear for a while, which will hopefully prevent me from cracking any more crowns. Stopped at the pharmacy. Then picked up a egg-bagel sandwich.

In to work for the first time in three weeks. Good to be there. Catching up on email. Getting a computer set up to do Intel work on. Great progress has been made while I was gone. Alx was puzzling out why click-detection wasn't working. I started looking at low-level "number crunching" sorts of issues. Took a walk out to deposit my check and for coffee and pizza. Headed to Victor's around 8:15.

Arrived at Victor's house about 8:50. We worked on Chrysanthemum, then some Moving Force and Lark's. Said hello to Jane as she was coming in, and I was leaving. Back home, some hanging with MB, then down basement for practices.

Back at KKC

Sunday: Up around 8:30. A bit lazy, shower, then down basement for brief morning practices. Headed to KKC at 9:50. MB was off to a BD workshop, leaving shortly after me. Good to be back at the center. The talk was on the subtle lack of reality inherent in all things. Had lunch with Wnd at the Mexican place in Union Square. A lazy afternoon. Email. House cleaning. Took a nap. Some guitar. Walked out and got some pizza, which I ate on the back-porch. Down basement for daily practices. Headed off to Guitar Circle. Body beat. Worked on our repertoire for the gig on Sunday at OCBC. Some talk about our goals. I played Chrysanthemum for the group and Victor and I decided to work it up as a duo piece for Sunday. After, I talked with Victor a bit about my immediate goals, and challenges. We're meeting tomorrow at 8. Filled the tank, and it cost almost $50. Back home, and some food with MB (eggs, potato and toast). Talking about the circle. Need sleep.
