Woke late, (got about 5 hours sleep). MB was staying home, because she hasn't been feeling well. Gus. Shower. Had some robust oatmeal and leftover tea with MB. Down basement, morning practices and drums. Cleaned out the humidifier, using a little bleach.
Off to work. A sunny and seasonally cool day out (low 30s F). Spent much of the day debugging my modifications. Close to checking things in. Started hitting more "other peoples in-progress bugs" than mine, which is always a sign that my code is close to road worthy. Burrito and coffee. Stayed until about midnight. Stopped at a convenience store on the way home. MB called while I was strolling the aisles. While I was contemplating which brand of honey to buy, another fellow came up and said "Are you buying honey too? Which brand should I buy?" I said "I like the bear better than the NASCAR driver." He agreed, and picking up the bear-shaped bottle, leaving the cylindrical bottle with the likeness of a motor-jockey on the shelf.
Back home, and some tea and pudding with MB. Her voice is about gone. Guitar. Down basement an email. Somehow, it's 3:30 AM.

vcents
Monday: Woke around 11, and up, having a fairly focused morning: Gus, shower, down basement, morning practices, drums, some tidying. Spent a few minutes on the computer with Final Cut. Our internet connection came back to life, but avoided email. Headed out. A pretty day, and warmer than it had been.
Stopped for an egg sandwich, and then across town to work, slurping coffee while I drove. In the office, talked to J and B about the problems I had with the UI element for the "per chunk amount tailoring." Had a productive day, converting another class to work with "two files in one" and doing some testing. Stayed late.
Back home around midnight, MB was working on the computer. Guitar. Tea. MB went to bed. Email an web surfing. Now, down basement.
This recording is proof that all hope for America is lost.

More audio cleaning
Sunday: Woke around 11:30, feeling pretty good. Had an intentional sort of morning. This translates into not frittering time away at the computer; a new goal of mine. Gus, shower, quick breakfast of left-over coffee and cereal. Down basement, morning practices, and drums. Pulled a few things together. Carried the spring-summer-fall tires from the back of my car to the shed, and cleaned up the back-seat. Took note of what hooks and whatnot I'd like for the shed. Headed out.
Stopped at Home Depot. Just noticed a few days ago that the horrible movie theater in the Assembly Square Mall has closed. Bought various hooks and bungee chords. Decided not to go check in on F (who M said is having back problems).
In at the office, continued my work of audio-cleaning. Talked to MB. Found a good breaking point and walked out for coffee and a burrito. Did a little work-work. Saw the owner of the company come through. One other guy was in as well. Headed to guitar circle.
I had forgotten we were beginning the circle early. Old habits die hard. Otherwise, they wouldn't be habits. We worked on Victor's circulation composition, and another shorter piece of his. Also Third Relation and Invention 1. It seems to me we keep working, but we're not getting any better.
MB followed me to the parkway (funny that a big strip of asphalt would be called a "parkway"... or that leaving your car someplace would be called "parking") and headed to a belly dance gig. Back home, spent some time organizing the glove box of my car. Did some audio work on the DVD, replacing the old audio with the new cleaned up audio. MB came home, some hanging out. Back down basement, more DVD work, and now completing the day.

Devil in Disguise
Saturday: MB headed out very early, but I barely woke. She was back later. Had a lovely sleep-in. Early afternoon, both up, and Gus, shower. While MB was having her morning sitting, I made us breakfast (eggs, toast, coffee, soy sausage). She headed off to language class. Down basement, morning practices, drums.
Headed out. The car started fine today, despite the cold. Yay! Stopped at Third Life to drop off a check. Did a sort of "Latihan" drive to Harvard Square though some unexplored parts of Cambridge. At the office, did some audio restoration work, but no actual coding. A little after 7, MB picked me up and we drove to Central Square.
All Asia Cafe: Elvis Belly Dancing. I got some food (slow in coming) and filmed parts of the event. MB took money at the door, and danced near the end. Of course, she was the best!
After the gig, I stopped back by the office briefly to pick up my car, and check on some files I'd left rendering. Back home, spooled the video into the iMac. MB returned. Some snacks and tea in the kitchen. A good guitar practice. Email.

Bloody cold
Friday: Woke at 8:30, quick shower, made some cheese toast and reheated tea. Had a phone call at 9 with J from CA about an upcoming course. We talked for an hour or so, as she boarded a plane for OH. Not long after, Bd called with a correction to some information I'd just received. Very good timing. Decided to not sleep more, although I could have used it. Up, email, Gus, another shower. Down basement, morning practices and drums. Mailed a DVD off to my mom. Headed off to work. Stopped at Starbucks where a very earnest man with spectacles (but no facial hair) served me a coffee. Bought a muffin in the market next door.
A good day at work. Sectioned an object into to parts, so it could work on more than one stream at a time. Debugged that, and got some other stuff up and running. Answered some questions for Dv. Let Ls out of the parking garage. As B was leaving he asked me for an opinion on something. Burrito. Damn cold out today. Someone posted an offensive video clip to an email list that I'm on, and I gave them my opinion with both barrels. Left around 9.
Drove to the mechanics and picked up my car. It started fine, so it looks like they found the problem. Said goodbye to the Saturn. Filled up my tank at the gas station. In the bay next to the one I was using, the driver of a tow truck was trying to start its engine. He kept cranking, but no luck. I resisted saying "Hey, you need a tow truck..." Eventually another tow truck did come and gave him a jump. It was that sort of cold out.
Back home, MB was already in bed, hanging with Gus, and doing some language study. She has a really early day tomorrow, and is feeling under the weather. A warning about a slippery shower floor. I played guitar for a bit. Snack. Hot tea. Down basement. Email.

Cold Squawk
Thursday: Woke around 10, some email, and back to bed for more sleep. Then, up, Gus, shower. Quick breakfast of eggs and reheated tea. Down basement email. Called my mechanic and the good news is they found the problem, the bad news is it was expensive to figure it out. Morning stuff, drums. Put away laundry. Packed the car for the evening's activities and headed off.
At work, a brief day, doing some debugging, and then working on another class that needs to be transformed to work with "two in one." Some lunch like food at my desk thanks to MB. Left at 7:30.
Over to central square. Quite cold out. The class before mine was not in session tonight, so I had to open up the building. Took my guitar in out of the cold. One fellow showed up tonight, and MB. He was interesting, because he had done more reading than most.
Closed up and headed to Squawk Coffee House, with MB. She helped carry the gear in. Shawn was already there. Several singer-songwriters, of varying qualities performed. The first was a student at the Berklee School of Music and seemed to quite fancy himself. The temperature dropped. Shawn and I went on about 11:30 PM and played Thrak, which went pretty well (I got the 5s and 7s backwards, but oh well). We were going to play hope, but I felt too bloody cold. I suggested Third Relation, but Shawn didn't go for it. We tried Hope, but it fell on its face... So: The World Blind worked well. A couple more singer-songwriters, the last one hailing from Australia. The evening ended with a song called "Real Estate and Nudity."
Packed the car "It's colder than a witches tit out here." Gave Shawn a ride home. Picked up MB's car. Back at our place, cranked up the heat, and fired up the oven. Leftover Pumpkin Kibby. Cheese and crackers. Tea. Now, down basement. MB is practicing guitar. I suspect Gus is in front of the electric heater.

The Middle East
Wednesday: A nice morning, up and internet not working. Gus. Shower. Down basement, morning practices, and drums. Had a conversation with someone who I might co-lead a session with at a party in a couple weeks. Fetched the snow shovels out of the shed on the off chance that we get any snow this winter.
Headed out, stopping at the video store to drop off, and then at the donut shop for an egg sandwich. Still no word from my mechanic, so cruising in the Saturn. At work, checked in with B, and got a report about the trade-show. He thinks I'm being productive, so I guess I am! Then, talked to Al about a complex bit of engineering he did, that I now need to modify. Turns out MB had an ocular migraine. Finally got down to business and reworked some code I'd written just a couple weeks ago to be more convenient to use, now that I see I'm going to need to use it all over the place. Continued "two in one" conversion. Met Shawn at 7:30.
We drove over to Arlington. In preparation for tomorrow's gig, we worked in our most stripped down form: Shawn with a snare and one cymbal (and a boot on the floor) and me on acoustic. Some pieces take on a whole new life played in this way. Some don't really work as well. We did some worm on EotN, recording a snippet to Shawn's voice mail via my cell phone. Quite pleasingly low-fi, especially since the studio is underground.
Dropped Shawn at his place, and then drove back home, stopping at the Somerville Castle. A woman walked her dog in circles for what seemed a minor eternity. Back home, about to get out of the car, when my cell rang. MB was in the neighborhood, and about to head to the Middle East. Put my guitar and briefcase inside, and joined her.
Over in Central Square, ventured into the "bakery" side, and MB immediately met with the woman she was trying to connect with. Next door, for some food (garlic salad, grape-leaves, pumpkin kibby). MB headed back to the bakery, and I caught a cab.
The guys in the cab (driver, and his buddy riding shotgun. Both probably from Haiti) were friendly. The fellow in the passenger's seat said he loved watching the Patriots lose. "At half time, they were up 21 to 3, so I switched it off. Later I checked back, and they were down, 31 to 21, and I said 'OK, now I have something to watch!'"
Spent time trying to get the internet back on its feet. It was up, and then fell over again. Tea. MB came home. I got her connected to the net by leaching off a neighbor's open wireless. Now, down basement.

Noise reduction
Tuesday: Late sleeping again, after a late night. Email, shower, Gus. Downstairs and some leftover coffee and oatmeal. Light snow on the ground. Down basement, more email, morning practices, drums. Put a load of laundry in and off to work.
Main work of the day was reforming an important streaming class. Working through bugs in my code. Fixing another class. Ran out of steam at some point. Lunch at my desk. Had a good conversation with Ls in the basement about his impressions of the recent trade-show. Worked until 10, listening to the "State of the Dis-union." Then, off-the-clock, spent some time playing with some noise reduction software.
Back home late, MB was putting end of year letters in envelopes. Some food, listening to the BBC. Email. MB is upstairs getting ready for bed and Gus is in my lap.

Light Flashes
Monday: The phone woke me around 11. Someone saying MB's glasses were ready. Email. Gus. Downstairs and some leftover coffee and a cookie. Feeding Gus. Shower. A lovely breakfast of warmed-up oatmeal, and an egg with soy sausage in a whole wheat burrito wrapper. It's the "cleaning out the fridge special." Down basement and morning practices. Hunting for a rattle in my drum kit.
Headed off to work, driving the long way around. Fairly productive today, getting one aspect of my recent work up and running, finding a bug of Al's in the process, then, doing some more new work on another class I had yet to visit. Walked out and didn't get anything from "The Place of Good Pain" but did visit the pharmacy. Left work at 8:10 PM.
Back home, MB told me she'd had something funny with her vision happen while she was teaching her class, and then a headache. Probably lack of sleep. We went out on a shopping run, and bought many edible things at the larger nearby grocery store. A light snow falling, we unloaded the car at our house. Putting things away. I changed the strings on my acoustic guitar while MB took a shower. Did some work on the Caravan DVD, trying to see why the audio was missing on some of the burns. Rebuilt the menus, and set it generating a disk image. Said goodnight to MB. Some food. Down basement.

Projects in the basement
Sunday: Had a lovely sleep in, waking around the time MB got back from her private dance practice, and going to church. Email, Gus, shower. Had some breakfast (an egg burrito, with soy sausage and salsa) while MB ate some lunch. My mom called, and offered to take us to a dance performance, but MB already has plans. Down basement, morning practices and drums. Spent the rest of the day popping up and down from the basement, working on various projects: replaced a light-bulb. Burned a test DVD, (and determined that there was no difference between a couple of export formats in Final Cut). More email regarding Miller's River. More work towards my upcoming California trip. My old friend MTA wrote to say she'd been in a minor car accident. MB and I watched the rest of "Zoolander."
Around 7:45, off to Guitar Circle, again in Jane's loft. Victor, MB, David & Glenn. Watched some of the Caravan DVD, but something is a bit out-of-whack with the audio/video sync, and the picture kept freezing. We spent the first half of our session working on begging playing, using Third Relation as our test case. The second half was devoted to Invention 1. I made many mistakes tonight, but there was no pattern to them, so I guess I was just spacing out.
Back home, and a microwaved potato, whole wheat burrito wrapper and cheese (we're out of bread). Helped MB put the clothes back on the bed. Down basement, and web updates and sending out email.

Rug people, and a visit to Wnd
Saturday: Woke around 10, Gus, Shower. In the kitchen when the cleaning people arrived. They did their best to clean the rug that they had problems with. I was eating some oatmeal, while one of them tried to make clumsy conversation with me. A few flakes had fallen outside.
Some chatting with MB after they left. Down basement, morning practices, drums. Came up, played a little piano (I mean for a short time... not one of those toy ones.) MB and I unloaded the tires from her car, and cleaned up the shed a bit. Talked to her parents, wishing her father a happy birthday. MB headed off to her language class (and after that she was going to do some baby-sitting for friends).
Email. Cleaned out my electric razor, which always takes longer than I think its going to. Drove in to work, dropping off a DVD at the store, and picking up a couple of VHS tapes. At work, continued my debugging of the threaded code, with my mods for "two files in one." Sent my hours to T. Headed down to Norwood.
A pleasant evening with Wnd. Some meditation. Chatted about various things, including a "health related experience" she'd had. Picked up some Indian food. Watched "Bliss." Not exactly the movie I was expecting, but fun anyway. Headed home.
Back at the ranch, MB was not in yet. Down basement and completing the day. When MB got in, said hello, we both retreated to practice guitar for awhile. Then to bed.

Keeping the Saturn
Friday: Up, after "Gus Wrestling", email, Gus treatments, shower. Quick breakfast of re-heated coffee and eggs. Down basement... and drums. Clear and cool out today.
In to work, the long way, which wound up being even longer, as Storrow was backed up. Did some quick maneuvering, and headed back across the Salt-and-Pepper Bridge through Cambridge. At the office, cars were in a funny configuration in the garage. RPT offered to put them all back in their places. Still driving the gold Saturn. Called the mechanic, and they are having fun trying to figure out what's wrong with my car. Now the suspicion is that it's electrical. A new bit of information: The car may have enough juice to crank, but not enough to spark, which would explain a lot. Picked up a job from the printers and got coffee at Pete's, walking past the carcass of Tower Records. A good day in the office, debugging my work, and sizing up the next round. Worked with Dv to straighten out a couple of small things. Headed home at 7:20.
An evening with MB: We walked up to the video store. It looked like there had just been a traffic accident: broken glass and cop cars. We picked out a couple of things, and headed back. The cars were now in the post office parking lot, and a drug dog was in the trunk of one of them, sniffing. MB and I cooked some macaroni and cheese, making use of the food processor my mom had given us for Christmas. Big fun! Veggies. Watched a couple of episodes of "Extras" (painfully funny in a similar vein as "The Office") and some of "Zoolander" (whacky, and good for a chuckle). Need humor these days, me thinks. Coffee. Then, lots and lots of email. Now, down basement for some guitar and to complete the day.

Sianara Art Buchwald
Thursday: Another sleep-in. I'm quite catching up on sleep this week. Email. Gave Gus his treatments. Shower. Down basement. Drums. Headed to work driving the rental car: a gold Saturn. Not terribly cold, and slightly damp.
At the office, got a coffee and a muffin from Au Bon Pain (which means "The Place of Good Pain"). Began debugging the "two files in one" threading sub-project. Talked to Al about some stuff. Installed some audio-cleaning software on a PPC machine and tinkered with it a bit. Left at 7:35
Over to Union Square. No peoples, except for MB. She went home, and I went back to work. At 10:15 I headed to the Squack Coffee House and hung out for a while with Shawn. A a young scruffy fiddle music band played sloppily but I bet they are reeling in the young women folk. Where did I go wrong? Helped put away the PA. Gave Shawn a lift home.
Back at my place, some leftover stiry fry, hanging with MB. We watched the NY Times auto-obit on Art Buchwald. I love the way he used the end of his life to remind us that we can move towards death with humor and intention. Now, down basement, email, some guitar and completing the day.

Sudden Chaos

Wednesday: Sleepy dreams of Gus. Then woke feeling well rested. An email from Shawn said we weren't rehearsing tonight. Put on some water to boil, and fed Gus. Chased after him to get his other medications down. Shower. Eggs and coffee. Down basement, practices, and drums.
Quite cold this morning, and the car wouldn't start, so I called my mechanic. Decided to drop it off there. Got it going, and headed to Union Square.
In the process of pulling the snow tires out of the shed: When I opened the shed, I was struck by how neat and tidy the contents seemed. The tiki torches and the hammock stand sections were standing so crisply up against the back wall. As I removed the tires, the tiki torches and hammock stand sections fell over, creating a huge crash and a big tangled pile. It was cold, so I just crammed everything back in as best I could. Sometimes "order" is very transient.
Dropped the car off, and got a loaner. In at work, continued my "two files in one" project. Getting very close to lift-off on this particular reorganization. The fire alarm went off. Everyone left the building as the fire trucks arrived. I walked down the street and got a coffee and a pastry. Banking. Went to Newbury Comics (the only CD store left in Harvard Square), and didn't buy anything. Working. Listened to the iPhone keynote again while working, just for entertainment. Al gave me a long talk about something that amounted to nothing. Stayed until about 9:30. Drove the loaner home.
Ate some frozen Indian food, heated in the microwave, and drank some tea, hanging out with MB and Gus. She'd gotten some nice bread that we had as well. Helped her with a tweak to the Caravan movie. Played guitar for a bit. Down basement and email. Tried installing some audio restoration software I just bought, but was disappointed to see it doesn't run on Intel Macs.

Yoga after a hiatus
Tuesday: Another morning sleep-wrestling with Gus. Then, email, treatments for the cat, shower, some oatmeal and yogurt for breakfast. Down basement, morning practices, and drums. MB called with a tech support request from a co-worker. Some tidying.
Headed to work. Stopped for a Starbucks coffee. The taste of this coffee had a certain piquant zip to it that reminded me of stale urine. A brief day. Continued my "two files in one" project. Talked to Mk a bit about a problem he solved. Talked to B about our status. It seemed the bathroom had not been cleaned last night. Headed off at 6:30. Mk asked me about my central vacuum system.
Over to KKC, and yoga, for the first time in a long time. Wendy changed up the format some. Good and challenging. Afterwards, chatted with her a bit. Said hello to some old yoga friends.
Back home, ate some leftover stir-fry. Hanging out with Gus. MB came home. We opened presents from her Bro. Little magnetic rattler eggs! Practicing guitar. Reading. Back-rubs. Watched a bit of the Caravan DVD. Down basement. Emails, completing the day.

Stir Fry for MB
Monday: Had a lovely sleep-in, even though it was a week day. Much needed. Posted a long response to a thread I initiated regarding the impending end of the world. Gus. Shower. Eggs and soy-sausage for breakfast.
Not so long a day at work. Talked to Mk about a problem with his hardware compiler. An MB lunch at my desk. Headed home around 7:45.
Cooked up a stir fry, MB coming home and lending a hand. Yummy food. An almost completely wordless argument, prosecuted and resolved in silence.
Completed our annual letter and sent it to the printer's. Stayed up really late working on the Caravan DVD... and then completing the day.

Video Day
Sunday: Woke around noon, MB just getting back from various adventures. She read me a funny bit about in-water-emissions. MB did a sitting.Email, shower, Gus, then down basement for my own morning practices. MB was napping when I came up. Did some work on the Caravan video. Some breakfast (eggs, oatmeal, coffee). Victor called and said our meeting tonight would be at Jane's studio. I got her set up to add chapter markers. Down basement and more video editing on my other project. Some personal practice. A gray, chilly, rainy day out. Somehow it was 7:45, and MB was knocking at the door to the basement. We drove to South Boston, and after a little confusion, found Jane's studio. Up 5 flights. GCNE rehearsal, mostly watching a video of the performance at Bridge's school, and some taiko drumming. Martin got in a little late, having had some trouble finding the place. Then some playing, plugged in. Feeling about achy. Back home, snacks in the kitchen. Down basement and email. Completing the day.

Dropping in at the Kasbah

Saturday: Woke very late, but much needed sleep. Gus poking at face. MB headed out to her language class, and I slowly got up. Emailing about the GC course. Shower. Gus. A nice breakfast of odds and ends. MB came back from her language class. I went down basement for a bit (sitting). Hanging out drinking coffee. We're noticing the rug in the living room that was cleaned looks a bit odd now. MB took a shower, and started the process of getting ready for the evening. Vacuumed the car out. Started spooling video of the Caravan event into the iMac. This was the first time we'd watched it. MB headed out. I decided to go watch "Letters from Iwo Jima." Good film. Drove around a bit afterwards. Found my car taking me to Winthrop. Dropped in on MB's gig at the Kasbah. Crazy dancing fun. A guy who works at the Boston Globe's printing department, talked to me about football and skiing. The owner of the place told everyone to shut up, and the whole room fell silent. Impressive. A couple of people effusively told MB how great she was. Left a bit before MB. Back home and some food. MB arrived. Talking about this and that. Watched the second reel complete spooling into the iMac. Played with the built-in camera a bit. Now, down basement and completing the day.

Phones on the Fritz. Facilitation.
Friday: Gus again served as an effective alarm clock. Email. Shower. Gus. Had a nice breakfast (two eggs, fried soy, toast, coffee). Down basement and sitting. Had a phone call to make, but the phone was not working. None of the phones were working. Used my cell. A good conversation. One insight: a person can not be other than of their time. Spent about an hour debugging the phone lines. It turned out the cordless phone in the kitchen needed to be "rebooted." Crazy. Some more time in the basement. Drums and such.
Headed to work, driving the long way around. Not very focused today... feeling sleepy. Did make a bit more progress on the background processing front. Was going to get bad pizza, but luckily they were out of cheese. Burrito. My major contribution today was some input into a design discussion about a feature similar to something I've been working with in another application. Often you get get 90% of the feature, with 10% of the effort. Headed home around 9.
Some upholstery cleaners had been in. Victor called, and suggested I be the facilitator for the Special Circulation Project, and I accepted. Hanging out with MB and Gus in the kitchen. MB is now the transportation coordinator. Down basement and video editing. Said goodnight to MB. More editing, and surfing. Completing the day.

Apocalypse
Thursday: Woke a bit after 10, Gus again proving a good alarm clock. An intentional morning, brief email, shower, Gus, heated some coffee in the microwave, down basement, drums. Did some vacuuming. Packed the car. Was going to zoom off, but the car wouldn't start. Lovely. Managed to get going with a charge. Called MK to let her know I'd be late.
A bridge was out in the route I was planning on taking, making me later still. Arrived about 20 minutes past the appointed time, but a pleasant conversation. Headed to work. Quite a bit of typing today, getting through about 137 intentionally created compile errors. Burrito. Later on, some coffee and a pastry. Read this incredibly depressing article, while waiting on builds.
Headed to Union Square. No peoples. Headed home. Hello to MB, and gave her a ride to Squack Coffee House, where she was dancing. Stopped at the video store. Didn't feel like distraction. Back home, watched "The Wire." MB called and asked me to come get her, which I did. Things went well from her account. Hanging in the kitchen. Spent some time trying to get the photos off her old malfunctioning cell-phone, without success. No drivers for OS X, and the Windows drivers just kept giving error messages. Then the USB cable came apart as I tried to unplug it from the phone. Lovely. Down basement, some video editing.

Bush is Iraq's Vietnam
ednesday: Gus served as a very good alarm clock this morning. Not much sleep. Brief email, shower, Gus. Down basement, sitting and drums. Took a walk up to the ATM. Saw a guy measuring the house a couple of doors down. Asked if he was the new owner, but now. Got a slice of pizza on the way back. Breakfast of champions. No sign of the cleaning people. Set up an email list for some collaboration I'm involved in. Problems. Headed off to work.
Got a coffee and a slice of something at Starbucks. Slogged through a heap of changes, while multi-tasking, trying to get the email list working. There is a hierarchy of background task objects. The base class had a structure in it (for historical reasons) that was specific to only a small subset of the subclasses. I'm having to remove this now. The iPod HiFi bag arrived.
At 7:30, met Shawn and headed to Arlington. He was afraid some parts of his drum kit had been lost by a "friend" he had lent them to. Turned out they were just put away incorrectly. A pretty good rehearsal, me just on acoustic. Thrak was sounding just about ready for the stage. Shawn recorded our session on his old cassette recorder. Stopped at the Diesel Cafe for coffee on the way home. Talking about what's next for The Church of Flying Dreams.
Back at the ranch, a little hanging out with MB, helping her with some music for a performance tomorrow. Talking about deep sea fish. Checking out the bag for the HiFi. Down basement. Figured out what my problem was with the mailing list. Email. Web.
Tonight, I managed to both say "Vietnam is Bush's Iraq" and "Vietnam is Iraq's Bush." I need more sleep.

iPhone
Tuesday: Up, feeling a bit water-logged. The internet was being wonky. Shower, Gus, down basement. Email, once things kicked back in. Headed to work, stopping to buy dental floss and a few other small items. The woman at the checkout said "have a nice night." I said "It's not night yet!" My sleeping schedule lately makes this a touchy subject.
Stopped at the Broadway market for some food (salad and fruit, string cheese) and coffee from Starbucks. An earnest man, working there, delivered a vanilla frothy coffee drink to its recipient with great intention. Distracted for much of the day, realizing that the next chunk of work for me, was bigger than I hoped. Grappling with how best to proceed. Tried to watch the Apple Keynote, without success. Didn't go to yoga again. Worked late.
Home late, around 11. Gave MB some rubbings. Some food. Down basement. A little guitar. Watched the keynote. The iPhone looks pretty amazing. Completing the day.

US Sub and Japanese Vessel Collide
Monday: Another very late night, and subsequent late morning, drifting into early afternoon, with Gus in bed. Some time in my very early morning, a phone call from a plumber. My brain was still jelly when I took the call. Then later. Up, email, shower, Gus. Eggs and toast, coffee. Down basement, drums. Used some screws to connect the halves of shelves in the basement to correct some of the wobble that was created when I didn't have enough supporting brackets.
Off to work, driving the long way around. Very dramatic overcast sky, colder, and rain. When the real January temperatures come back, it's going to be a shock. Getting region operations working on the merged files. Good progress. Coffee, free fudge, and the lunch MB packed. B has a cold. Moved my car so he could get out. Asked him how many cars he owns, and he was too embarrassed to answer.
Back home, hanging out with MB. Ate an improvised burrito sort of thing from some rice and black-eyed-peas that MB had going. Cleaning up. Down basement and working on our annual letter. Goodnight to MB, handing the letter over for another proof.
Forgot to mention yesterday, I was putting away laundry. Wound up with a pair of mismatched socks. (Both black, but slightly different construction). Knowing that all the black socks were gone from my drawer, I deduced that I must be wearing the complimentary mismatched pair. Taking off my shoes confirmed this. A sock detective am I.

Pigeon feathers
Sunday: Got to bed very late. Slept until noon. (MB heading out for dance practice and to OCBC). Gus was pretty well behaved. When MB got back, up, shower, Gus, and some breakfast (toast, coffee, yogurt) listening to This American Life. Down basement for sitting and drums.
MB and I headed over to Home Depot and picked up picture hangers and a couple other small things. Back home, and cleaned up a spot in the backyard where it looked like a pigeon had met with a violent end. It looked like someone spilled milk in front of our house. Started the generator. Not quite as warm today, but lovely. Hung pictures with MB. My mom called, and I reassured her we were not sending back her Christmas gift. Took some stuff down basement, and introduced MB to the drum kit.
Spent most of the rest of the day working on my DVD project. Around 7, upstairs and some food with MB (leftovers, plus some artichokes). Checked in again with her around midnight.

Very Warm
Saturday: Woke late, MB coming home from being out dancing, Gus poking at my ear. Some email. Shower. MB and I had breakfast together: fried eggs and waffles. MB made some sort of new material from slightly burned molasses and frozen blueberries. Tried to be of more assistance with her cell-phone situation. Down basement for morning practices and drums. Laundry.
Took a walk up over the Somerville hill. Very warm day out, for this time of year. People were in tee-shirts and shorts. Down the other side into Union, then back up and over. Said hello to Sue, who was sitting out on her porch.
Back home, and talking to MB. Decided not to do anything with Shawn and Wnd tonight. Down basement again. Did a bit of work on the DVD project. M called with a funny report about a cat getting into the crawl-space between floors.
MB and I walked back over into Union Square, and got some Mexican food, then walked back home. I spent the rest of the evening working on the DVD project, with a break for a cup of coffee, and helping MB make the bed.

Un Qi
Friday: Woke around 10, email, shower, Gus. A quick breakfast. Made a phone-call, but MK did not answer. Down basement, sitting, drums. Paid bills. Tried MK again, and we spoke. The little picture book that I made of the process of building my guitar arrived.
Headed off to work, the long way. Had a good conversation with B. We took a walk out for coffee. He now thinks an idea, that I was trying to sell people on about two years ago, is worthwhile. Got the data presentation process on n-way files working. Began work on the region operations. Clocked out around 9. Walked around to the one remaining CD store in Harvard Square (which now seems to sell mostly DVDs). Got a burrito, and ate sitting out on the little patio outside the restaurant. It's like freakin' spring. Back to the garage.
Decided to go to the little party in Brighton. Shawn didn't have his cell on, so I walked up and down the street listening for voices. Found the place. A friendly time. Serious heavy Scrabble competition. I gave ample foot rubs. We played the word guessing game "Taboo" and ate cheese. Serious heavy cheese. Some fun conversation about traveling in Europe. Tennis balls. I left, and some other folks followed, around 1 AM.
Back home, MB already asleep. Down basement for completion of the day.

Tennis Balls

Thursday: When I woke, I thought it was 9 AM, but it turned out to be noon. Probably a good thing. MB headed out to a language class. Email. Gus. Shower. Gus. Down basement and sitting. Drums. Cleaned my laptop screen.
Headed out, stopping to pick up some tennis balls at the very large sports store in the Assembly Square mall. In to work, the long way. Very mild weather we've been having. Had a cup of tea, a Cliff bar and something from the vending machine for breakfast. Got the summery view of two paths, working and turned to the issue of rendering. Talked to Al a couple of times. Left around 7:40.
Over to Union Square, and set up for my class. MB dropped in to say hello. One peoples, who was put off by the fact he was the only person. Some people love it. Back home, leftover pizza and salad, and then some noodles. Watching the Wire. MB came home. Hanging out. More email. Now to complete the day.

Flying in the Basement
Wednesday: Slept in a bit, waking with Gus. Email. Shower. Cat tending. Down basement, drums and morning practices.
Stopped at the PO and mailed off the book of photos to my mom. Stopped for an egg sandwich. Got stuck in a bit of traffic heading the long way around to work, but not so terrible. Working on summery calculation when multiple streams are present in a single file. Talking with Al. Met Shawn at 7:30.
Back to my place, then waked out for some pizza. I made some tea and ate sitting at the kitchen table. Shawn has the ick, and he perhaps gave it to me last week. It's been an icky month. I'm ready to be healthy again. Down basement, and a CoFD rehearsal. I wasn't playing so well tonight. It was fun hearing Shawn play my funny little drum kit. It sounds good in a trashy sorta way. Sits well with the electric, but not so well with the acoustic. Good work on Thrak. Back upstairs and hello to MB. Some standing around/hanging out. Demo'd the iPod HiFi for Shawn, then gave him a ride home.
Back at the ranch, helped MB find some Elvis songs on the iTunes music store. Some salad and toast. Tea. Email.

Slowly back to work
Tuesday: Had a lazy morning, hanging with Gus. Email. Shower. Breakfast of fried eggs and toast. The photo books I'd make of the images of me as a very young pumpkin arrived today. Packaged one up to send to mom. Down basement. Drums. Fixed the paper holder in the second floor bathroom. Headed out.
The PO was closed due to the funeral for Gerald Ford. Off to work. Continued working through issues involving "one file rather than two files." Talked to B... I may get pulled off this to work on other stuff. Decided not to go to yoga, since I'm still feeling a bit ill, and I got into work late. Headed home around 10:15 PM.
Back at the ranch, MB was on the computer. Some hanging out. Guitar. Down basement and email. More time with MB. Trying to replace her dying cell-phone. Back down basement, and completing the day.

Reading in bed
Monday: Day off. Woke to a paw in my face. MB had gone out to dance at Third Life. Up and some Spanikopita and tea, while watching the Wire. Back to bed. MB returned, and she read while I continued to sleep. Then, reading in bed. MB brought us some yummy oatmeal (sitting while she was fixing it). Eventually we both got up. Gus, showers etc. Took a walk with MB up and over the Somerville hill, down through Union Square, then back up the hill. Somerville only has one hill, so if you want some exercise, you have to cross over it multiple times. Stopped at the donut shop. Back home and more Wire while enjoying our coffee. Gus is a donut fiend. MB's brother called. We ate some leftover Chinese food. Guitar. Down basement, and working on our year-end-letter. Some more hanging out with MB around 11 PM, tea and snacks. Making sure the iPod HiFi was going to work for her BD class. Ordered a bag for it. Back down basement to complete the day. Still feeling a bit under the weather.
